Dr. R.J. Nelson
Director of The State Bank for 25 years. R.J. And his wife Lindy have two adult daughters. A native of the Arkansas Valley, R.J. graduated from Colorado State University with a degree as a Doctors of Veterinary medicine. He returned to the Arkansas Valley where he established Colorado Veterinary Clinic. The practice was associated with La Junta Livestock Commission Company for whom he continues to check cattle for the sale barn. Growth of the practice resulted in the addition of several other veterinarians being added to the staff. Dr. Nelson also owns and operates the family ranch with a cow calf operation and a feed lot where cattle are fattened for market. Dr. Nelson has been active in numerous civic activities. These include President of the School Board, Chairman of the county Republican Party, President of the Rotary Club and a long time member of the County Health Board. R.J. provides the board with insight about the cattle markets, a sizable portion of the bank's loan portfolio.
